Cristiano Ronaldo will wear the No 7 shirt after returning to Manchester United.
The Portugal international wore the shirt during his spell at Old Trafford. He left the club in 2009 to join Real Madrid, moved to Juventus in 2018 but returned in a shock move at the end of the summer transfer window.
Ronaldo arrived back at United with the No 7 shirt already being worn by Edinson Cavani. Cavani was handed the shirt last season and also wore it for the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.
Cavani has switched to the No 21 shirt as a result. That has been left vacant after Daniel James, who wore it in the first three games of this campaign, moved to Leeds United on deadline day.
United later confirmed that people who had bought a Cavani No 7 shirt from them could arrange for an exchange.
Ronaldo will now wear the No 7 shirt. This could happen as soon as September 11, when United travel to the north east of England to face Newcastle United.
