Erling Haaland hailed ‘amazing’ Jude Bellingham after the Borussia Dortmund and England midfielder broke two Champions League records in the victory over Besiktas.
Bellingham, 18, fired the Bundesliga side ahead with a superb goal on 20 minutes, and provided the assist for Haaland’s second on the stroke of half-time.
Besiktas’ Javi Montero scored a late header to set up a nervy finish, but Dortmund held on to begin their Champions League campaign with a 2-1 win in Group C.
Bellingham has thrived at Borussia Dortmund since his £25m move from English Championship club Birmingham City last year, with his impressive form earning him a place in England’s squad for Euro 2020.
The teenager has continued where he left off this season and became the youngest Englishman to score away from home in the Champions League when he netted in Turkey.
The strike also saw Bellingham surpass France and PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe as the youngest player in the tournament’s history to score in consecutive Champions League games.
Haaland was looking back on Borussia Dortmund’s victory over Besiktas when Bellingham interrupted the interview by kissing the Norway striker on the cheek.
Former Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City transfer target Haaland was promptly asked about Bellingham’s impact and said: ‘He was amazing.
‘He’s 18 – three years younger than me – it’s crazy! What can I say? He’s amazing He is 18-years-old and plays so incredibly well. He is fantastic.’
On Dortmund’s hard-fought victory, Haaland added: ‘We fought hard and we did good so I’m happy with the win.
‘It was a tough game. That was an important victory. I am very happy with the win. I’m a goalscorer, that’s my job. So I have to score goals.’
While Bellingham is flourishing at Borussia Dortmund, Haaland continues to star for the German club, with his latest goal taking his overall tally to 66 from 66 games.
The 21-year-old has been especially prolific in Europe, scoring 21 goals in 17 games in the Champions League across spells with Red Bull Salzburg and now Dortmund.
Following Dortmund’s win in Turkey, UEFA Player of the Match Bellingham said: ‘It was a brilliant atmosphere. The most important thing is that we won the game.
‘That was our job today. It went back and forth, a bit like basketball. ‘We are very happy with the first few games.
‘It’s so much fun to win football matches with Borussia Dortmund. We have to continue like this.’
