Arsenal among PL trio ‘following’ €40m-rated Athletic Bilbao starlet

Arsenal, West Ham United and Wolves are all interested in Athletic Bilbao’s 22-year-old defender Dani Vivian, according to reports.

The centre-back joined the La Liga side in 2016. He spent last season on loan at Mirandes in the Spanish second division.

Vivian played 32 times for them that season before he returned to Bilbao ahead of the 2021/22 season.

The 22-year-old has made his breakthrough for their first team this campaign. He has played the full 90 minutes in all but one of their eight La Liga games so far this term.

Fichajes.Net have reported that Vivian is “attracting the attention” of Premier League clubs. They name Arsenal, West Ham and Wolves as the clubs that are “following” him.

The report adds that Vivian’s current contract expires in 2023 and he has a release clause of around €40m.

Elsewhere, Arsenal defender Gabriel has insisted that “it is only the beginning” of his partnership with Ben White.

The latter joined the Gunners during the summer for £50m from their Premier League rivals Brighton.

Gabriel said: “The manager wants his central defenders to defend well, first and foremost.

“He wants us to know the moments to attack and the moments to defend. That’s what we are trying to do, and we know now when to drop deep and when to push up.

“Having good timing on the pitch is essential and he talks to us about that a lot. He also tells us how every game is different here because we’re up against players with different attributes.

“Thanks to god we have managed to win three games together and keep two clean sheets.

“It’s only the beginning but I think we have the makings of a very good partnership, in terms of our attributes.

“Ben and I have each had a full season in the Premier League now and we’re getting to know it much better. We still need to connect even more but we are improving and developing with every game and that bodes well for the rest of the season.

“We want to be a very intense and aggressive defence.”
