Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe moment caught on camera in PSG win over RB Leipzig

Lionel Messi sparkled as PSG beat RB Leipzig in their Champions League showdown on Tuesday night. The Argentina international had a slow start to the contest. But, with the pressure on, he stepped up and delivered to secure all three points.

PSG took the lead against RB Leipzig through Kylian Mbappe, who struck in the ninth minute.

However, the Ligue 1 giants were then rocked as their Bundesliga rivals turned things around

Goals from Andre Silva and Nordi Mukiele had PSG staring down the barrel of defeat but, in the end, they turned things around.

Messi levelled in the 67th minute.

And he then scored a penalty to secure all three points for Mauricio Pochettino's side, with Mbappe then missing an effort from 12 yards of his own.

Express Sport will now take a look at four things we noticed from the match.

Mbappe let Messi take first penalty

PSG have several good penalty takers in their ranks.

But Mbappe allowed Messi to take the first spot-kick, in something that was caught on camera by BT Sport.

The France international, after being fouled, immediately pointed to the veteran to give him the chance to score.

And Messi didn’t disappoint, netting with a fine chip to put PSG 3-2 up with 16 minutes to go.

The spot-kick was just his third goal for the club, with his first coming against Manchester City on matchday one. And Messi then returned the favour for Mbappe in the closing stages, though the Frenchman couldn't convert his effort.

PSG are vulnerable

PSG have a star-studded squad full of attacking talent.

Yet they look vulnerable at the back, with full-backs Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes both experiencing a difficult day at the office.

At one point, Pochettino could be seen venting his fury at the pair for failing to stop the flow of RB Leipzig crosses.

And had it not been for Messi, their weakness could have come back to bite them.

Luckily it didn’t. And they’re now on course to qualify for the last-16 of the competition with seven points under their belt.

PSG are right to stand by Navas

On a night where his defence let him down, Keylor Navas didn’t disappoint.

Many expected the Costa Rica international to struggle when Gianluigi Donnarumma arrived on a free transfer from AC Milan back in the summer.

But Navas was at his best to deny Leipzig a point, in a game where they certainly deserved at least one.

Donnarumma is very much the future for PSG.

But Navas is for now and, if he carries on like this, will be for many years ahead.

RB Leipzig are infuriating

There were times in the match at the Parc des Princes where RB Leipzig were on top.

But, for the German side, it was the same old story as previous matches.

Going forward, they’re strong. A really good, organised outfit capable of causing problems for any team on the planet.

But, defensively, they’re a mess.

And, because of their inability to find a balance, they now look destined to drop into the Europa League.
