Ousmane Dembele’s time at Barcelona may be nearing an end after he decided to snub the club’s latest contract proposal.
With the Frenchman now entering the final six months of his contract with the Blaugrana, he will be available on a free transfer in the summer. And clubs from across Europe are now lining up to sign him on a Bosman move.
There have been links to Paris Saint-Germain, while Newcastle United have also been mentioned as a suitor for the 24-year-old winger. Now, Foot Mercato reports that Manchester United have also entered the fray for the signing of the ex-Rennes wonderkid.
The Red Devils had been linked with a move for the French international since last the summer, but a move never materialised. However, following the latest developments over his contractual situation, the Premier League bigwigs are back in the hunt for his signing.
The report goes on to state that the 20-time English champions have already established contact with the representatives of Dembele, to explore the possibility of a transfer at the end of the season.
As per the report, the former Borussia Dortmund forward had demanded a salary of €40 million per year, along with a massive signing-on bonus of €40 million. While he would wish to continue at Camp Nou, the winger would do so only if his contract demands are met.
Given Barcelona’s financial situation, the club meeting those figures is very much out of the question. However, teams like Manchester United, PSG have the financial muscle to do so. Nonetheless, it remains to be seen if they are willing to shell out such wages to a player who has proven to be highly prone to injuries.
The report also mentions other clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal and Bayern Munich as potential suitors for the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner. As to who ends up signing him, only time will tell.
